I seem to be stuck in a work wear rut. Black skirt, black tights, black shoes and a top. Maybe I’ll wear one of the few dresses in my wardrobe that is suitable for work. I mean, look:
Skirt: Oasis, Top: George @ Asda (many years ago!), Shoes: Primark.
Here’s a few of the things I bought recently, I usually head to Dorothy Perkins and Oasis for my work clothes because their sizing isn’t crazy – I can actually fit into the sizes that I think I am!
I get up at 6am and have less than 45 mins to bathe, find an outfit, dress, make tea and get to the bus stop. So I stick to my uniform because its easier. Even my makeup (um…when I remember to put it on at least!) is very basic – foundation, mascara and a bit of lipstick, usually done when I’m on the bus as well!
If I were a bit more brave about wearing…well, anything but my usual uniform, I’d probably choose these to add to my wardrobe. Still quite safe for the most part, but things I wouldn’t normally wear – trousers, bright colours and blouses.
(Oh, and of course, a Mulberry handbag. Because I need it. NEED.)
If you work in an office, do you have certain things you always wear?

Loved reading this post as I’m starting a new job and am looking to get some new clothes (mainly skirts and shirts, quite like the ones you’ve posted.) I tend to usually wear black trousers and a black top (love black far too much) but now I need to make more of an effort! ;) I adore your shoes by the way!

I have to wear a full suit to work, which is provided for me, so I am lucky in that sense. I do miss putting together my own outfits though, as I adore shift dresses – so smart and feminine! xx

It’s so easy to get in a workwear rut. Luckily, I work in an office where there isn’t really a dress code, but I still seem to have something of a work ‘uniform’. Working in places with a casual dress code can be a nightmare too though, it’s often very easy to mix in your fun clothes with your work clothes. I think it’s important to make a distinction, even if just to be able to separate yourself from work by your clothes.

I tend to wear a lot of dresses because then I don’t need to worry about finding a skirt and top that match! Plus there are loads of gorgeous midi and knee length dresses around that are work suitable at the moment.
Definitely concur on Dotty P’s for workwear – I have some lovely stuff from there!
I am always more tempted to buy weekend-wear than workwear when I go shopping, but I wear my work clothes 5/7ths of the week, so I reckon it makes sense to buy nice things!

Hey Hayley!
I tend to wear the same things for work a lot to but like to wear dresses with a cute cardi and leggings, i like to wear slightly flared or wide leg trousers which stop any lumps being seen.. (high waisted are good to) and gypsy tops which are baggy round the waist but nicely fitted on the neckline..
Have you tried next for work clothing? I have quite a bit there and its really nice.. plus if it helps I lay out my clothes the night before it takes off atleast 15 minutes of my morning routine!!

I really like what you’re wearing as well Hayley, haha!
I do have to say though I love the clothes in that picture, especially. the teal. top! I think you’d suit the black wrap-style dress, or the purple one – you could so rock that with some chunky black heels!
