Things have gotten really busy lately. Turning 32 last month kinda caused a little panic and I’ve ended up signing up to do my CIMA certificate (I only have one module to do to get the certificate, then I can start CIMA properly. Why did I wait so long to do this!), I’ve started going to the gym again (which I forgot that I really enjoy, and especially when I have a colleague come with me after work!), I’m seeing a personal trainer twice a week (which is actually awesome – when I went to the gym previously, I just went on the treadmill, cross trainer or bike – now I get to do weights!) oh, and there was a house purchase in the middle too. Blogging has taken a further back seat than before and meeting up with everyone is even further back!
TGI Fridays offered me some vouchers to head over to the Cabot Circus branch which seemed like a great opportunity to catch up with Sophie and spend lots of time talking about, well, everything.
We had a great waitress (who didn’t mind tooooooo much that we spent more time gossiping than choosing our order…!) who brought over our first cocktails – a classic mojito for Sophie and a “skinny” blackberry margarita for me – apparently, with less than 100 calories, but this just meant it was a little less sweet than normal – still very easy to drink!
Neither of us had been to TGI’s very much in the past few years, so we both ended up going for fajitas – I went for the Jack Daniel’s crispy duck, and Soph went for blackened chicken. We also chose a portion of sweet potato fries which disappeared quickly (more places should have them as a side dish!), and the Texan Toothpicks which were…interesting. They were like thin pieces of onion and chilli that had been deep fried – they’d be great as a topping to a burger, but weren’t the best side dish.

The rest of the meal was delicious though! Probably the only time we stopped talking was to eat – my duck was much larger than expected (I expected a breast but it seemed like half a duck!) which came with a little pot of my favourite JD sauce (when I worked for a chain owned by the same company, I’d use my staff card to persuade the waiters to bring a jug of the sauce with my meal!) and came with cucumber and spring onions. Sophie’s blackened chicken looked just as delicious with a salsa on the side and the usual dips you’d expect with fajitas.
After dinner, I went for a royaltini which has raspberry vodka, blackberries, apple juice and a bit of fizz and Sophie went for another mojito while we carried on talking about literally everything in the world. I know that some people dislike chains but I think they have a place for meals where you need to cater for lots of different people and with the vouchers and deals that are around, they make an easy place to get together with friends.
Thank you TGI’s – I need to come back soon to tackle the Warrior again!
