I’ve been trying to drink less alcohol in the week, but there’s something about having a nice drink after dinner, so I’ve been looking for some mocktails to make and thought I’d share some of my favourites that I tried.
Syrups!
The easiest way to make a drink is using a flavoured syrup in some soda water. I’ve been ordering some Torani syrups* because I realised that my favourite drink in the winter from Starbucks is basically just milk and flavoured syrups, and then I ordered some fruity flavoured ones and well now I have a small collection. I like putting some of the black cherry syrup into my Diet Coke as well
Cold Fashioned
I wrote this recipe down from @barman_academy but can’t find the actual post anymore to link to! We make our own cold brew with ground coffee and the OXO Cold Brew Maker* so it’s nice to try something different with it.
- Cold brew (the recipe recommended 1½oz of cold brew concentrate and 2oz water, but I just poured a glass of the cold brew and added ice)
- Sugar (the recipe recommended ¼-½oz of demerara sugar syrup, but I just popped two demerara sugar cubes in and stirred a lot to dissolve. You could probably just use simple syrup as well)
- Orange bitters to taste (I know I totally just changed everything in the recipe, but it recommended 2-3 dashes, which didn’t really make it taste different to a normal cold brew, so I just added a bit more)
Blueberry Lime Fizz
This one was a little more involved than the rest, but once you’ve made the blueberry syrup, it makes a few drinks.
For the syrup…
- 1 cup blueberries
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp water
Bring these to a boil, then let simmer for a few minutes. You could mash the blueberries then strain them, but I just put them in the blender, then strained the mixture.
For the drink…
- 2 tbsp blueberry syrup
- 2 tsp lime juice
- Soda water to top off
Pineappleapple
This was so yum, it reminded me of the tropical punch we used to make with a lot of rum at uni.
- ½ pineapple juice
- ½ sparkling apple juice
- 1tsp lime juice
- dash of grenadine
Strawberry and Blueberry Mojito
I’ve made a few variations on this (just strawberries, just blueberries, and then this one) so you just adjust the fruit amounts as you think makes sense. This is what I used for the mixed berry drink
- 2 strawberries
- Handful of blueberries
- Handful of mint leaves
- 1tsp lime juice
- Soda water
Mush the first four ingredients together, then add the soda water.
I’d love to hear more alternatives if you’ve got any recipes or recommendations!
