OK. 2020 is done. Never have to do that again. OK, so the ticking over from 11.59 to 12.00 didn’t magically fix everything, or whatever, but just like with new years resolutions, it’s nice to have a point in time where you can turn over a new page and start afresh.
This year was… interesting. Not just for the obvious, but there were some changes (new house! new job!) and I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and started taking meds for it which really helped.
So, as ever, first I look back…
- Stop getting stuck in my head
I have always been rubbish at over thinking everything but once I started taking the meds for my thyroid, the brain fog cleared up and I was able to do a few things that I’d been thinking about for literally years.
According to Goodreads, I read less books in 2020 than I did in 2019! I did read older, paper books which obviously don’t update automatically, so I think I read more than Goodreads said I did. I’ve set my Goodreads 2021 challenge for 25 books so I should be able to hit that!
- Send more snail mail
I enjoyed sending out post at the start of stay at home, but sort of faded out once we moved house. I think I know where my cards and stamps are and I need a good reason to use the address stamp I bought!
2021’s plans are…
- Pay better attention to my health and fitness
We just signed up with a new doctor who seems awesome (and who uses terms like boob squish, so it’s not intimidating to visit!) so I’m looking forward to working with her to get my body back to strong and healthy instead of broken. We have been setting up our own gym stuff at home, and I’ve just started using the Apple Fitness Plus classes (which I’ll be posting about soon if you want to know more). I’m going to try to drink my water target every day – Alex bought me the Hidrate Spark Steel which is the updated version of the bottle I previously mentioned and it’s nicer to use (it has a straw cap, it keeps drinks colder, and – more superficial but still awesome – it will glow in rainbow colours to remind me to drink. Never underestimate how important something pretty is to motivate)
- Be more regular
I blogged a lot more last year than I did in previous years which was nice, but once we moved house in August, it felt like my routines all got broken and it’s only in the last month that we’ve started to get back to normal (and then of course they broke again because of Christmas) so I’m looking forward to finding a routine where I can blog more often both here and on my other sites. I feel like I basically abandoned them once we moved.
- Dress up more often
A few years ago I set one of my resolutions to be stop keeping things for best and I didn’t do too bad with that, but I do still tend to do it. The past year, I’ve worn leggings a lot more than I did before, and that’s not a bad thing (ooooh comfort) but I’m at the stage when I’m tired of not making an effort. Time to start straightening my hair more, maybe wear some makeup, and wear a dress once in a while.
When do you start your resolutions from? While I like the beginning of the year to set my intentions, depending on when the 1st lands, I don’t think they start until either the 2nd or the first full week (because lets face it, New Years Day is for mooching and finishing off the last of the Christmas snacks)
